The Only Thing That Counts

TNIV Scripture for Tuesday, August 12, 2008 [Galatians 5:4-6]

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

It is easier to work hard at being good than to rely on God through His Holy Spirit. However, not only is it impossible to be good in God's eyes apart from His grace, but you miss out on being filled with His love. You can do "the only thing that counts" when you are looking to God to fill you with His grace. Then, and only then, will you see your "faith expressing itself through love."
