Judgment Is Coming [2 Peter 2, TNIV]

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--

God is just and by His very nature has to destroy sin and judge sinners. According to Peter, God's record through the ages has proven that God has unleashed His wrath on sinful angels and people in devastating ways. And God is going to judge again. There is a day set aside to put sin away once and for all. It will be a day of horror for those who do not have the protection of the blood of Christ. But there is so much more to God than His judgment and wrath. He is also love, deep and awesome love. The cross of Christ demonstrated both His justice and His love. If God were not just, no one would have had to die your sin. But if God were not love, He would not have put His own Son on the cross to die for your sin. The cross is an amazing picture of God's true nature that is so baffling to mankind who want to portray Him as either a God of fire and brimstone or of love, love, love. He is neither and He is both. May you  grow in the intimate knowledge of this amazing perfect God of the universe.
