God's Impossible Standard [Matthew 7, TNIV]

'Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 'Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in someone else's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from the other person's eye.

Christ set a really high standard for His disciples. In Matthew 5:3-7:27, He explained that standard in detail starting with the beatitudes telling how you are blessed if you are poor in spirit, if you mourn, if you are gentle, if you hunger and thirst for righteousness, if you are insulted and persecuted because of Him. Jesus also explained that murder happens when you call your brother a moron, or if you lust after someone in your mind, or if you break a promise. He also told His followers to turn the other cheek if you are slapped, to love your enemies, not to collect treasures on earth, not to be anxious and not to judge others. This is the law of God according to Jesus. God's law is an impossible standard! You can't live up to that standard, no one can. That's why you needed Jesus who did not come "to destroy the Law or the Prophets...but to fulfill." And every day you have access to the power of His Spirit to live according to His high standard if you will invite Jesus to do it in you. May you keep on inviting Jesus to fulfill the law in you today.
