Jesus, My Shepherd, Is God [John 10]

22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem;23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon.24The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, "How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly." 25Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me. 26"But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.30"I and the Father are one."31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him.32Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"33The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."

John is my favorite book in the Bible and chapter 10 is one of my favorite chapters in John. From his opening words, John made it clear throughout the book that Jesus is God. I like things to be clear so that when people challenge me concerning Jesus, I can take them to John as well as other places and show them how Jesus demonstrated and explained His deity. He was not just a good man and He was not a liar, nor was He crazy. He said He was God and He backed it up with not just one miracle, but with so many that John said at the end of the book that if all that Jesus did were written, he supposed that "not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written." (John 21:25)

Jesus
Did works in the Father's name
The works testified about Him
His sheep know His voice and follow Him
He knows His sheep
He gives eternal life to His sheep
His sheep will never perish
No one will snatch them out of His hand.

The Father
The Father has given the sheep to Jesus
He is greater than all
No one is able to snatch the sheep out of the Father's hand
Jesus and the Father are one

The Jews listening to Jesus speak these words that winter in the temple in the portico of Solomon understood that Jesus was claiming to be God. Just look at their response.

"31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him.32Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"33The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."

We praise You Jesus that you and the Father are One and that we can know your voice and follow you and be eternally protected in Your hand. Cause us to walk in the truth of who You are, hearing Your voice and following You and in the power of your protection
