God the Perfect Parent Reasons with Us [Isaiah 1-2]

Isaiah 1:

1The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem, which he saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
    2Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth;
         For the LORD speaks,
         "Sons I have reared and brought up,
         But they have revolted against Me.
    3"An ox knows its owner,
         And a donkey its master's manger,
         But Israel does not know,
         My people do not understand."
    4Alas, sinful nation,
         People weighed down with iniquity,
         Offspring of evildoers,
         Sons who act corruptly!
         They have abandoned the LORD,
         They have despised the Holy One of Israel,
         They have turned away from Him.

In the prophesy of Isaiah we will find a mixture of prophesy about what was going to happen to the nation of Judah in the near future, what was going to happen when the nation would go into captivity (a  few hundred years later), prophesy about the first coming of the Messiah and also in the end times, thousands of years later, the second coming of the Messiah.  At any of those times the state of the people will be about the same - they will have forgotten God.  Sons who act corruptly! "They have abandoned the LORD, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they have turned away from Him." It doesn't change God's message of hope that we will find sprinkled throughout.  He continues to offer salvation to His people.
18"Come now, and let us reason together,"
         Says the LORD,
         "Though your sins are as scarlet,
         They will be as white as snow;
         Though they are red like crimson,
         They will be like wool.
(Dear parents, don't miss this.  God did everything perfectly and his sons still rebelled.  I have often thought that if we could just parent right our kids would be okay.  I was relieved when I realized that it all doesn't hinge on Dick and I. It is also comforting to know that God is perfectly parenting my children, even in their rebellion. And that He continues to parent me in my rebellion. He is not waiting for me to get it right before He offers hope.)

Lord, we praise You that You have parented Your children perfectly.  Even though You have never missed a step in loving Your children as You "reared and brought( them) up,"  they have still rebelled against You.  We praise You that You never give up on us and that You offer Your Son as redemption for our sins.  Thank You for making our scarlet sins as "white as snow."

Today I also need to remember Isaiah 2:22 -
         "Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils;
         For why should he be esteemed?"
