God Is Your Stability [Isaiah 33-34]

5The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high;
         He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
    6And He will be the stability of your times,
         A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
         The fear of the LORD is his treasure.

Times are unstable and people are afraid. Weather wreaks havoc, people cause terror, family members discover they have a terminal disease, our soldiers die or come home with horrible wounds, millions of kids with autism are entering adulthood with no support system to speak of, leaders of nations threaten the world and if that isn't enough, our nation's unemployment is still rising! And God tells us through His Word over and over again that we are not to be afraid! What is He thinking?!!!! Doesn't He see what is going on?

Yes, He does see what is going on. In fact, He told us clearly throughout the Word that these sorts of things would not only happen, but get worse. These are the birth pains that will ultimately bring in God's kingdom. I never got to experience those ever increasing pains that lead up to the birth of a child as I had four C-sections. Therefore, I just have to imagine what it might be like. However, I did go through the classes that teach you how to do labor well. We were taught to look at our focal point, to breathe through the pains and to remember that each increasing contraction (not allowed to call them pain), brings us closer to the joy of the birth of that precious baby.

I suppose we could use some kingdom birthing classes that prepare us for the increasing worldwide disasters that God says are coming our way. In those classes, God would be our focal point. We would be taught to breathe out the wrong thinking and breathe in the truth (grace exchange). Finally, we would discover that these things are to be welcomed as the kingdom of God is getting closer!

In these times, according to Isaiah 33, we have stability. He is and will be the stability of our times. I pray that we all will commit these verses to memory so that when things are feeling chaotic, the Holy Spirit can bring these words to our minds. Then, we can breathe out our fear of the earthly stuff and breathe in the fear of the Lord who is our treasure.

We praise You, God, that you are exalted, dwell on high, You are bringing justice and righteousness, You are the source of our wealth, salvation and knowledge and You, alone, are the stability we need. Cause us to fear You alone and enable us to keep You as our focal point each day. We can't, but You can.
