You Are Not Orphans!

TNIV Scripture for Wednesday, June 25, 2008 (John 14:16-20)

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever--the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

These encouraging words of Christ were spoken during the last week of His life. He knew He was leaving His precious disciples and friends. He had been so many wonderful things in their lives; an advocate, helper, truth, Father and so much more. They were scared and feeling abandoned, but Jesus had a plan to be all those wonderful things to them through His Spirit He was going to send to them at Pentecost, fifty days after His resurrection. He told them they would not be abandoned like orphans. And if you are God's child through faith in Jesus, you have this same awesome Spirit of Christ living in you. You can never be abandoned, you can never be orphaned by Your Father in heaven!!!
