Christ Made It Possible

TNIV Scripture for Wednesday, October 1, 2008 [Colossians 3:5-11]

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

God's standard is impossible. Can you imagine your life with no immoral thoughts, or lust or evil desires and greed? Or how about no anger, thinking ill of others or unwholesome words coming out of your mouth. No matter how good a person you are, you will not, as long as you are in your fallen body, reach God's sky high standard. However, because of Christ and all that He did for you described in Colossians 1 and 2, it is possible for you to choose to put off wrong thoughts before they bear bad fruit in your mind and life. But you have begin to know and trust God first through the Word and prayer and then daily and moment by moment run to Him for the awesome grace and power to lay aside your wrong thoughts and desires and to put on His mind and character instead. May you grow in your relationship with God through Jesus and learn to trust Him and walk by His grace. May Jesus become your all in all.
