God's Eternal Love For You
TNIV Scripture for Saturday, June 28, 2008 [1 John 2:15-17]
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If you love the world, love for the Father is not in you. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful people, the lust of their eyes and their boasting about what they have and do--comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
John, the disciple that Jesus loved, understood that Jesus was all about love (agape-unconditional and sacrificial) and so in his writings (the gospel of John and in 1-3 John), he had a lot to say about love. In this passage, John explained that love of stuff on this earth blocks you from receiving God's love. All that this temporary world has to offer is nothing compared to the eternal love of God. You have a choice each day of your one and only life to love this world or to love God. By His grace, choose God and enjoy the abundance of His eternal love He has for you.
